Job Description - Learning Support Teacher

Anyaman Preschool aims to offer an inclusive environment, wherever this is possible. The Learning Support Teacher works together with the primary classroom teacher and families to support a child/children with any additional needs in the classroom.

Support in the classroom

  • Supporting the child to be able to participate in the daily classroom routines and activities

  • Encouraging and facilitating interaction between the child and their peers as well as teachers

  • Planning and preparing any visual aids, props or other modifications in the classroom environment that may be required

Communication with family and staff

  • Maintaining frequent communication with parents and classroom teachers on the child’s progress

  • Joining teacher’s meetings on a regular basis (when necessary) to discuss the development of the child and how the planning might incorporate some of the child’s needs

  • Recording and sharing qualitative and quantitative observations from the daily classroom context, as well as any additional information provided by the child’s parents or other professionals working with the child

  • Providing input during any parent-teacher meetings, which will involve the classroom teachers, parents and the support teacher

Prerequisite characteristics:

Note:

  1.  No prior experience with teaching or working with children with learning differences is required, training will be provided on the job

  2.  While the support teacher’s first priority is always the child being supported, she will also interact and engage with other children in the classroom. This is to ensure the child being supported does not feel singled-out for needing additional help, and to foster a setting where all children and adults in the room have a conducive flow of communication with each other.


Job Description - Casual Teacher

As the casual teacher, your role will be to:

  • Help set up and prepare materials for learning experiences

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times

  • Participate in classroom daily routines and jobs as requested by teaching staff (e.g., support individual children during large group time, collect documentation information for anecdotal notes and developmental assessments, etc.)

  • Assist with large and small group learning activities and provide appropriate supervision and guidance to all children while they are engaged in child-initiated and teacher-directed activities

  • Assist children in areas of self-help skills, such as eating, dressing, toileting or diapering

  • Assist children in clean-up of snack, lunch, and nap

  • Assist in the arrangement of space, setting and materials in the school learning environments (e.g classrooms, common areas, outdoor space)

  • Effectively observe and share information with classroom teachers regarding children’s experiences

Note:

The casual teacher position is a part-time, ad hoc position. The schedule is flexible and varies depending on the school's need and the casual teacher's availability, in order to provide support during anticipated or unanticipated teacher absences


Job Description - Intern

As the intern, your role will be to:
